The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the potential of CO2 laser (10.6 µm) associated with fluorides in inhibiting enamel erosion. Human enamel samples were divided into 9 groups: G1: eroded enamel , G2: APF gel, G3: AmF/NaF gel, G4: AmF/SnF2 solution, G5: CO2 laser ( =10.6 µm) + APF gel, G6: laser + AmF/NaF gel, G7: laser + AmF/Sn F2 solution, G8: laser and G9: sound enamel. The CO2 laser parameters were: 0.45J/cm2, 15mis, 128Hz. After surface treatment, samples (except group G9) were immersed in 1% citric acid (pH 4.0, 3min). Knoop Surface microhardness (SMH) (0.49N, 20s) was measured at baseline and after surface softening. Data were statistically analyzed by ANOVA with subsequent pairwise comparisons (p 0.05). It was concluded that AmF/NaF and APF application have shown a potential to protect and control erosion progression in dental enamel and that CO2 laser irradiation at 0.45J/cm2 did not influence its efficacy. Solely CO2 laser at the same conditions may also significantly decrease enamel erosive mineral loss, although at lower levels.

Results of first part of the study is evaluation of firmly bound & loosely bound fluoride. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the amount of loosely bound fluoride and firmly bound fluoride formed after the application of APF gel and laser activated APF gel in acidic and neutral pH at different time intervals and also to compare and evaluate the pulpal response of 810nm diode laser to different power and duration (2W & 3W for 5secs ,15secs & 30secs) in laser assisted fluoride therapy. The study on pulpal response gives an overall impression of maximum inflammatory cell infiltrate in 810nm diode laser treated at a power of 2W for 5sec, animals treated at a power of 2W & 15sec showed the pulp was affected the least whereas only one animal showed minimal inflammatory cell infiltration. Animals treated at 3W & 15sec showed less inflammatory cell infiltration though dentin demineralisation was observed and in animals treated with 3W power and 30sec, only 1 animal had exhibited minimal inflammatory cell infiltration and cellular congestion.

Studies on Control Algorithms for Series Hybrid...

Increased use of nonlinear loads brought about many technical conveniences and economical profits, but on the other hand it has exerted a continual growing influence on the power system's operating conditions. Active power filter (APF) emerged as an effective solution to the power quality problems caused by nonlinear loads and unbalanced sources. Out of various hybrid Active power filter (APF) configurations, the series hybrid active power filter (SHAPF) has become more popular in recent time. The SHAPF is capable of compensating both voltage harmonics generating load and current harmonics generating load. This research work includes the study and experimental validation of SHAPF with a novel control algorithm, to compensate source current harmonics and source voltage unbalances simultaneously. Simulation and experimental investigations is presented for evaluating the performance of different control algorithms of SHAPF. In the experimental prototype the control circuit is developed using ARM Cortex-M4 STM32F407VGT6 microcontroller. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm and also validate the simulation results.

Oil Price Volatility Spillover Effects on Price...

Studies have been done on oil price volatility spillover effects on the prices of food in both pre-crisis and post-crisis periods. However, what has been sparingly studied is oil price volatility spillover effects on urban prices of food and rural prices of food. The disparity in the rural-urban spending in Nigeria is an area that can further be explored by evaluating the effects of oil price volatility spillover on prices of food in these areas. This study therefore adopts GARCH (1, 1)-TY model to evaluate the impulse response function and variance decomposition of these effects on prices of food in pre-crisis and post-crisis periods. Findings show that in full sample and post-crisis periods both aggregate price of food (APF) and urban average price of food (APFU) positively respond to oil price shocks while rural average price of food (APFR) responds negatively to oil price shocks. However, the response of the urban average price of food proves to be more significant in the post-crisis periods as it appears relatively most affected in this period by a greater percentage of oil price shocks.

Adaptive Project Framework

A Breakthrough Framework for Adaptive Project Management from Project Management Guru Robert K. Wysocki Traditional project management models simply are not appropriate for an increasing number of critical projects, for which complete requirements and objectives cannot be specified upfront, and relentless change cannot be avoided. What's needed is an entirely new framework for project management: one that combines Agile methods with the profession's most enduring best practices. In this book, Robert K. Wysocki provides that framework-the Adaptive Project Framework (APF)-and shows how to apply it in any domain. Wysocki, one of the world's leading project management consultants, has spent decades helping large organizations succeed with complex projects. Drawing on everything he's learned, he explains why a fundamentally new framework is needed, and introduces all five phases of that framework. He covers artifacts, processes, and deliverables, and shows how to utilize each phase most effectively in your environment. Through four detailed case studies, you'll discover how APF can help you adapt to unexpected events, encouraging creative responses based on open partnerships between clients and project teams. Coverage includes Bringing greater flexibility and speed to any project, regardless of its goals or context Moving forward successfully with projects that have vague requirements Discovering what clients really want, not just what they say they want Managing ongoing scope changes throughout a project Customizing APF to your own environment Integrating APF with existing agile software development methods Overcoming the obstacles to success with APF Preparing for the future of project management This book is written for every project participant-project and program managers, software and product developers, process designers, and business analysts-who needs to deliver results in a world that won't stand still.
